Good to Know: dog-friendly, kid-friendly, snow-free winter hike, beach
At 66 acres, Anderson Point County Park isn’t very large. But this shoreline tract on Colvos Passage contains one of the finest strands of sandy beach on the Kitsap Peninsula. And past landslides and legal wrangling have kept it off limits from the public in the past. From the trailhead, follow the trail (a gated dirt road) steeply downward off a bluff into a lush ravine. The way is well shaded thanks to a thick green canopy of maples and alders.
At .7 mile reach the grassy flat of Anderson Point—and its expansive and gorgeous beach. The park contains nearly 2,000 feet of beach frontage. Walk it (but be sure to respect private property at both ends of the public beach). Find a nice spot to picnic—nap—and to play. Across Colvos Passage admire the fairly undeveloped shoreline of Vashon Island. On a clear day—look north and see Mount Baker floating in the horizon.
